A woman has been injured in an explosion in a laboratory at a hospital in Cork.

A woman has been injured in an explosion in a laboratory at a hospital in Cork.

The blast occurred when a two-litre drum of nitric acid exploded shortly after 11am at the city's St Finbarr's Hospital.

The victim suffered facial burns and is being treated at the hospital this afternoon.

The Health and Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
