Gardai to expand road safety moves

The Garda Commissioner is this evening announcing an expansion of the force's road safety initiatives.

Pat Byrne says all road deaths are preventable and under his new campaign, particular offences and road users will be targeted following a spate of tragedies during the past week, including today's at Slane, Co Meath.

Commissioner Byrne says, the offences to be targeted include speeding, drink driving and seat belt non-compliance. There will also be campaigns targeting pedestrians, cyclists and young drivers.
