Four vying for FG leadership

Fine Gael's new leader should be in place by the end of next week, according to a party spokesman.

Michael Noonan and Jim Mitchell are candidates for the post, as well as Bruton supporter Enda Kenny.

Some quarters within the party are suggesting that Kenny may have been groomed by Bruton to succeed him.

Another member of the pro-Bruton camp, Charles Flanagan, may also be in the running.

The parliamentary party will meet to select a leader next Friday, with nominations for the office closing on Monday night.
