The Court of Criminal Appeal is to set a date today for an appeal by Catherine Nevin against her murder conviction.

It is likely that the appeal, which will last a number of days, will not be heard for several months.

Mrs Nevin's application for free legal aid will be heard today and the State is not expected to resist the move. The appeal is understood to be based on five grounds.

Her legal team will cite prejudicial media coverage and that the starting date of the second trial was too close to the first.

They will also claim that her lawyers did not have disclosure of a letter relating to the inclusion of Jack White's Inn on a Garda anti-racketeering list.
