Investigations have begun into an unusual robbery in Co Limerick, this morning, at a car dealership in Knocklong.

At around 5am the front door of a garage premises was rammed by a large vehicle.

The robbers then proceeded to make their get away with, what the director of the garage company described as a "big grey safe the relative size of a washing machine".

They ransacked the garage office, overlooking laptop computers and other technology in their haste to get the safe away.

Unfortunately, for the robbers, the safe did not contain the money they may have hoped for; instead, it held invoices, accounts, chequebooks and car keys.

The garage owners have offered a reward for the safe return of the safe.
