College places call for disabled
There are calls for 2000 first year college places to be reserved for students with disabilities. The Union of Students in Ireland claims that those with disabilities are significantly under-represented at universities and institutes of technology.
The USI describe the problem as a deep-rooted one which cannot be solved overnight. However, their disability rights officer Joan Cullen said reforms must be implemented immediately.
"At the minute, the percentage of disabled people in college does not reach its full potential at all. No one person is less valuable than another. All are equal so there must be equal opportunities for all our young people in this country," she said.
