A second state supergrass has taken the stand at the Special Criminal Court to give evidence against John Gilligan.

A second state supergrass has taken the stand at the Special Criminal Court to give evidence against John Gilligan.

Russell Warren claims he was the bagman for Gilligan's drug business.

Like the previous state witness, John Dunne, he is serving a sentence at Mountjoy Jail under unprecedented security.

37-year-old Warren said he first met John Gilligan in late January or early February 1996 in the house of Gilligan's brother.

He stated he was collecting money from the sale of cigarettes for Gilligan prior to meeting him face-to-face, adding he collected money from five people, including convicted murderer Brian Meehan and Paul Ward.

Warren has also testified that he would bring money contained in plastic bags to contacts in Amsterdam and Calais, and would change the money for Gilligan at a bureau de change, depending on the rate of exchange.
