SIPTU Call for replacement jobs in Ballina

SIPTU has called on the Tanaiste and the IDA to find an immediate replacement for a Co Mayo car components plant that is to close with the loss of about 220 jobs.

Shocked workers at the factory in Ballina were only informed of the closure earlier today.

SIPTU said the news is all the more surprising because the factory had met corporate targets.

Union spokesman Sean Nolan said the Tanaiste must stop making statements to the media and back up her words with action.
