The RUC is continuing to question a teenager about the murder of a gay man in Belfast over the weekend.

The body of Alastair Homes, 30, was found by firemen investigating the cause of a blaze at his flat on Eglantine Avenue in the early hours of New Year's Eve.

He had been stabbed to death.

RUC spokesman Det Supt Allen Thompson confirmed a 16-year-old youth was in custody over the incident, but added the inquiry was still at a preliminary stage.
