A Luas driver refused to bring a tram on its scheduled journey because he feared delays could make him a few minutes late for the end of his shift, the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has heard.

The service on November 11, 2016 was scheduled to leave the Red Cow Station at 8.31pm and travel to the city centre before returning at 9.59pm — one minute before the end of the driver’s shift.

An adjudication hearing of the WRC was told that the driver was concerned that “the least little delay” would result in him overrunning the end of his shift, and “this was something he was anxious to avoid”.
