Man remanded on charge of clocking car

A CORK man, who is accused of clocking a car’s mileage by illegally tampering with the vehicle’s odometer, before selling it online, has been ordered to refrain from using the DoneDeal.ie website, as part of his bail conditions.

James O’Donoghue, aged 28, was brought before Limerick District Court yesterday, charged with dishonestly, and by deception, inducing the injured party into purchasing a Toyota Avensis, having knowingly tampered with the vehicle’s odometer to reduce the car’s genuine mileage.

Mr O’Donoghue is alleged to have reduced the car’s mileage by over 170,000km to increase the vehicle’s value, with the intention of making a financial gain for himself or to cause financial loss to another person.
