Almost a quarter of shoppers plan to travel over the border to the North to avail of the weaker sterling.

According to the latest Recovery Index by business and credit risk analyst Vision-net.ie, over 45% of these shoppers will make the trip for the first time, with those aged 25-34 most likely to make the journey.

Some 71% of Irish consumers plan to make a major financial purchase before the end of 2017. Of that number, only 9% plan to do so before the end of this year.
