The strategy aims to facilitate the advancement of women’s economic and societal interests, and written submissions can be made via www.genderequality.ie.
Equality Minister David Stanton hosted the first meeting of the public consultation on the forthcoming the strategy at the Imperial Hotel in Cork.
“We have made some advances to improve the lives of women and girls in Ireland, but it is clear that a lot more needs to be done,” he said.
“I am delighted to see members of the public, women’s organisations and organisations in related fields in Cork, Munster and surrounding areas taking an active part in this consultation to inform government policy.
“I am looking forward to hearing their views.”
Public consultation events on the new strategy will also take place at the Sligo Park Hotel on Thursday, January 12, at the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone on Monday, January 16, and in a yet-to-be-announced venue in Dublin on Wednesday, January 18.
The public consultation will remain open for submissions until January 27.
It is expected that the strategy will be finalised and launched early next year.
