Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe has insisted Kevin Duffy remains the right man to head up the commission tasked with advising the Government on pay in the public sector.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA), which represents rank and file gardaí, has said Mr Duffy’s position as chairman of the Public Service Pay Commission (PSPC) is becoming untenable after the former head of the Labour Court said the strike threatened by gardaí at the start of November was tantamount to “mutiny” and “illegal by any standard”.

In light of the comments at an industrial relations conference yesterday morning, the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) asked Mr Donohue whether he had confidence in Mr Duffy’s “objectivity and independence” in his new role.
