The long-awaited Macroom to Ballyvourney bypass is “near shovel ready” and yellow jackets will be on the road in January, Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, told councillors at a meeting in Tralee.

Mr Griffin, who said he was the only government TD in the county, was among the five Kerry TDs answering councillors’ questions at a meeting of the county council.

The bypassing of the town of Macroom, on the N22, which will eliminate delays, is vital for Kerry people and for tourists and industrialists. It has been promised often, but not delivered, the meeting was told.
