Irish hair stylist Gareth Bromell makes the cut for Taylor Swift
Gareth Bromell, who is originally from Co Limerick, travelled to the world-famous singer’s home to style her hair.
“Taylor wanted a bit of a change with her fringe and her bangs and the style of it. What’s really modern at the moment is the shag hairstyle, which is a really heavy fringe chopped into at the ends with a bit of layering through it.
“That’s what Taylor and I talked about and that’s what I did for her,” he explained.
The pair later attended English model and actress Liberty Ross’ birthday party where Ms Swift showed off her new hairstyle, which has been branded as “break-up hair gone right”.
“Liberty Ross is a friend of mine and I was invited to the birthday party. I was there with my friends and Taylor was there and we were chatting and had a dance.
“Then Taylor dragged me into the photo booth and we took pictures. She is a beautiful, humble, amazing girl,” he said.
The 34-year-old later uploaded a photo of himself and Taylor Swift from the party to Instagram. The picture has since gone viral and has even appeared in Vogue magazine online.
The shag hairstyle, he said, is extremely popular amongst his celebrity clients at the moment.
“Now girls are wanting to be a little more flirty with their hair so they’re cutting it shorter and choppier,” said Gareth.
“The shag is even more playful because you don’t have to blow dry the hair that much because it’s meant to be soft and flicky.”
The celebrity-favourite hairstylist has styled the hair of numerous A-List celebrities, such as models Heidi Klum, Lily Algridge, and Bella Hadid and actresses Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Emmy Rossum, Winona Ryder, Chelsea Handler, Sophie Turner and Caitriona Balfe. He has even styled singer Robbie Williams’ hair.
Mr Bromell began his hair styling career when he was 15 years old in Limerick, where he worked with Hugh Campbell, Toni and Guy, and Frank Slattery.
He has never forgotten his Irish roots.
“I love coming home and visiting. I come home two or three times a year to visit my mum and dad and I still have a lot of friends there as well,” he said.
After five years of working in Limerick, he then went on to London where he got introduced to the fashion industry, working under UK stylists Daniel Hersheson and Paul Hanlon.
Nearly 10 years later, he secured a job in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
“When I got to LA, I worked with Neil Weisberg and Amanda George at the Neil George hair salon in Beverly Hills. I worked there for four years until I met my agent. I’m now represented by the Art Department Agency in New York,” he said.
The much sought-after hair guru travels all over the world for his work, with prices starting at $350 (€310) for a cut and style.
“I’m living the dream and I’m very lucky,” he said.
