Una Foden’s profits on song amid solo deal

The solo path being pursued by former Saturdays singer Una Foden is already paying dividends, with the cash at her entertainment firm increasing more than fourfold to €410,980.

The 34-year-old announced at the weekend that she is to pursue a career as a solo singer and embrace her country roots.

However, new figures show the Tipperary native has already enjoyed a lucrative time away from The Saturdays.

Una established Pink and Purple Media Ltd in 2013 to capitalise on her solo earnings including fees Ms Foden would have received for her work as a judge on RTÉ’s The Voice of Ireland.

The mother of two won’t be able to rely on fees from The Voice any more after its recent axing in favour of an Irish version of Strictly Come Dancing.

However, new accounts filed by Pink and Purple Media Ltd show accumulated profits increased by £141,283 from £86,081 to £227,364 in the 12 months to the October 31 last.

Ms Foden owns 100% of the company and during the same 12-month period, the cash pile jumped more than four fold from £78,391 to £349,228.

At the weekend, Ms Foden revealed she has signed a deal with Decca Records, whose acts include The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney, and will be releasing music soon.

Revealing her songs would be “primarily pop rock folk,” and “very relatable and about lots of common emotions”, she said her main inspiration was Sheryl Crow.

She said: “I don’t miss being a Saturday because I’ll always be a Saturday, I’ll be a Saturday for the rest of my life, it’s like we’re a sisterhood and we’ll be back together hopefully in the next couple of years.”

The sharp rise in profits at Foden’s firm last year came ahead of her, along with the other members of The Saturdays sharing a dividend of £1.24m (€1.45m).

This followed the group in April moving to liquidate their performance firm, Day and Night Ventures Ltd and to share the spoils from their pop career to date.

Foden was one of five band members in The Saturdays and is set to receive around €290,000 before tax following the wind-up of the firm.
