Clare County Council yesterday voted through a number of last-minute, contentious rezonings against the recommendations of its acting chief executive, Ger Dollard.

Councillors back rezonings despite CEO’s opposition

At a special meeting to adopt the draft Clare County Development Plan 2017-23, councillors voted in favour of zoning parcels of land in the south-east and south of the county for housing — against the planning advice from Mr Dollard.

Cllr Cathal Crowe (FF) led the opposition against two of the three proposed rezonings, stating that one of the three, at the village of Meelick, “was the talk of the pub over the weekend and everyone knows who is for and who is against it”.
