A 24-year-old man hoping to avoid detection for carrying drugs put two pieces of cannabis in his mouth and fled from gardaí with five deals of heroin in his underpants.

The attempt by Paul Collins, of 6 St Anne’s Terrace, off St Mary’s Rd, Cork, was ill-fated as Garda Graham Desmond caught up with him and charged him.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm on February 16 last year. Yesterday at Cork District Court, Collins pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing a drugs search and having heroin for his own use.
