Man committed series of burglaries while on bail
Joseph Doyle, aged 35, has 95 previous convictions, including 19 burglaries, five robberies, and one assault. In July 2010, he was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to ambushing a foreign national on the street and sexually assaulting her.
At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday, Doyle of Haven House, pleaded guilty to five burglaries in Dublin city centre between June 1, 2014, and January 15, 2016.
Judge Melanie Greally suspended the last 18 months of a four-and-a-half-year sentence on condition Doyle takes part in victim-focused relapse prevention and anger management programmes with the Probation Services.
She noted that drug addiction had been a significant driver in Doyle’s offending. She said he had some history of violence but did not respond in a violent manner when confronted during any of these burglaries.
Doyle was arrested on June 1, 2014, while breaking into a house on Camden St. He made no admissions and was released on bail after being charged with burglary.
Five months later, he broke into a house on South Circular Rd. He was again charged and released.
In July 2015, Doyle was arrested after being identified on CCTV breaking into the zoology department of Trinity College Dublin.
The following January, Doyle broke into a residence on Dublin’s Morning Star Avenue and stole a glass jar filled with €200 in coins.
He later told gardaí the jar was only filled with buttons.
