Man jailed for insulting staff at Chicken Hut while ‘highly intoxicated’

Mossie Roche, aged 33, of Arlington Lodge, Church St, Tralee, has more than 100 previous convictions for “offences across the spectrum” and is currently serving a 15-month sentence imposed in Tralee. He is due for release in September.

He was “shouting and roaring insults” at the staff of the Chicken Hut takeaway in Castle St, Tralee. It was shortly after midnight and he was highly intoxicated, Sergeant Miriam Mulhall Nolan outlined at Tralee District Court.

He had a considerable number of previous convictions, the court was told.

Roche’s solicitor, Dave Ramsay, said the majority of the offences were alcohol related. His client came from a very decent family and “he apologises”.

However, Judge James O’Connor said “some of the previous such as the thefts are bound not to be alcohol related.”

He sentenced Roche to two months’ imprisonment for breach of the peace taking the charge of public drunkeness into consideration on the night of November 5.
