Six-year-old Dream Goal nets Cork club €12,700

As the ball left his boot and curled into the top corner, Colm Coveney could hardly have realised the wonder goal he had scored would garner international attention.

Six years after his strike sent Blackpool Celtic into the final of the Corinthians Cup, Coveney’s screamer is finally getting the attention it deserves — bagging his club a £10,000 (€12,700) prize.

Coveney’s left-foot effort from outside the box has been chosen as a runner-up in the Budweiser Dream Goal competition, and was the only Irish effort shortlisted by judges Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher, and Ed Chamberlin.
