IRELAND

There is little hope of a Taoiseach being elected today - despite a fresh vote in Leinster House later. TDs will be back in the Dáil this afternoon for the second vote, 40 days after the General Election. Ruth Coppinger will make history today - by becoming the first woman to be nominated as Taoiseach - when she is put forward by People Before Profit and the Anti Austerity Alliance.

Meanwhile, Gerry Adams has said this afternoon's sitting of the Dáil is entirely pointless and a charade. The Sinn Féin leader will not put his name forward to be elected Taoiseach this afternoon.

TDs should be threatened with a wage cut if they don't form a new Government soon, according to Mattie McGrath.

A man has died after falling from a roof in Co Donegal. The incident happened in Falcarragh at 9am yesterday morning.
