Easter weekend set to be wet and windy

The current spell of fine weather is expected to end for the Easter weekend with the return of blustery and unsettled weather.

Easter weekend set to be wet and windy

However, Ireland is expected to escape the worst of Storm Katie which is set to batter Britain.

However, we still face an Easter of heavy showers and blustery winds, with the south-east of the country the worst affected. Heavy rain is expected today and Easter Monday in most parts of the country.

Conditions will ease for tomorrow when the main 1916 centenary events take place. It will still be cold and breezy, with some sunny spells in the morning, but as the day goes on the weather will turn showery with a risk of hail and thunder.

“The weekend will be cold and, at times, wet and windy but there is a high level of uncertainty regarding the development of a low pressure system over Ireland on Sunday and the track of a further low pressure system on Monday close to the southeast of Ireland,” said Met Éireann.

Today will start overcast and wet in many places, especially the eastern half of the country, with some spot flooding expected. More showery weather, with occasional sunny spells in western areas in the morning, will extend to all areas for the afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow will be a cold and breezy day with bright or sunny spells but it will turn showery later with the risk of hail or thunder. Showers will die out and winds will moderate but there is the risk of heavy rain in the south.

Monday is likely to start wet and windy but the rain is likely to clear to scattered showers with some sunny spells later.
