Next time round, the interstellar troopers are due to head at light speed for the Wild Atlantic Way, with locations in Donegal and Cork on the horizon.

In a joint statement yesterday, Lucasfilm and the Irish Film Board confirmed that Star Wars will return to Ireland to film this year.

Star Wars Episode VIII is directed by Rian Johnson and sees actors Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Mark Hamill return. Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson is also returning as General Hux.

“Lucasfilm is thrilled to return to Ireland to film several sequences for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga”, said Candice Campos, Vice President, Physical Production.

“The beauty of Skellig Michael in the final scene of The Force Awakens was stunning and we know the new locations along the Wild Atlantic Way will prove to be equally as beautiful in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Ireland has become an important part of Star Wars history.”
