Opposition politicians have urged the Government to intervene to protect more than 100 families set to lose their homes to an investment vulture fund, after the firm behind the controversial move said it has done nothing wrong and will not back down on the issue.

Anti-Austerity Alliance/People Before Profit and Sinn Féin made the calls as it was claimed the crisis situation for an entire community in west Dublin could be repeated for a further 47,000 households nationwide.

In recent weeks 103 families at Cruise Park Drive in Tyrrelstown, west Dublin — some of whom have been renting the same property for more than seven years — have been contacted to say their homes will be sold over the next four years and that their leases will not be renewed. A total of 40 of these properties will be sold in the coming months.
