While political parties refuse to trust one another by going into government together, the Irish public are equally disillusioned with them, according to a survey.

The twice-yearly Eurobarometer survey carried out by the EU showed that of all political players, the parties themselves are held in the lowest esteem by citizens, ranking below EU and national institutions.

Eight out of 10 people surveyed said they do not trust political parties — while just 13% said they trusted them.
