Razor blades hidden in foil bag

Packing a foil-line bag with €166 worth of razor blades in a city supermarket resulted in a man being jailed for four months yesterday.

Stephen O’Sullivan, of 36 Courtown Drive, Knocknaheeny, Cork, pleaded guilty to the offence which was committed on September 25, 2015, at Tesco Paul St shopping centre.

O’Sullivan was caught stealing the razor blades and he was also using a foil-lined bag in connection with the theft. The bag was adapted in an effort to prevent the alarm going off in the store.

One week before this offence was committed, the same defendant had been before Cork District Court where he got a four-month jail sentence for assault.

That sentence was suspended on condition that he would keep the peace and commit no further offences for the next two years.

Inspector John Deasy said that in light of the theft-related charges, the prosecution was bringing the original suspended sentence for the judge to consider revoking the suspension.

Judge Aingil Ní Chondúin revoked the suspension on the four months jail term. O’Sullivan also faces penalty in another court for the theft which triggered the revocation.
