Woman fought off sex attacker in Tallaght
The woman managed to fight off her attacker by banging him over the head with her mobile phone. She then took a photograph of him as he fled pulling up his trousers.
The attack happened at around 9am last Thursday in Bancroft Park, at the back of a fitness centre in Tallaght.
The victim, thought to be aged in her late 20s, was walking towards a race track in the park and had her earphones in when someone approached her from behind and pushed her onto the grass.
He got on top of her and attempted to kiss her. She said she started bashing him with her phone at which stage she noticed he had his trousers pulled down.
The woman continued to hit him with her phone and screamed for help. She eventually managed to knock him over and ran away.
As her attacker left, she was able to take a photograph on her phone of him from behind.
The picture appears to show the youth pulling up the top of his trousers.
The woman was traumatised by the attack and alerted gardaí.
She gave them a statement and they downloaded the photograph she took of the attacker.
Gardaí are understood to have already made progress in their investigation and are following a line of inquiry as to the suspected perpetrator.
The assault follows two separate attacks in Tallaght on January 25.
Gardaí accepted the trend was “worrying” but pointed out the attacks were all unrelated and just happened to come together, and that they could go a long time without any reported assaults.
In one case, a 14-year-old girl has given a statement to gardaí in relation to an alleged sexual assault involving up to six teenage boys, all aged in their mid-teens, on Cookstown Road, near a local GAA pitch.
Gardaí have interviewed the six boys, but have not arrested them.
A file has been sent to the DPP and the Director of Juvenile Affairs. They will decide whether a criminal prosecution should be taken or if the youths should be put into the Juvenile Diversion Programme.
Later on the same day, two sisters — understood to be young adults — complained that they had been sexually assaulted by a group of young men in the Springfield part of Tallaght.
Gardaí are also making progress in that investigation.
