Up to five units of Cork City Fire Brigade tackled the blaze at Moynihan’s Bar (O’Muimhneacháin’s) on the Lower Glanmire Rd, opposite the entrance to Kent Station.

A spokesperson for the fire service said they received a call to attend the blaze at 7.37pm. The units were at the scene for close to three hours.

The pub, formerly Mulcahy’s Inn, was once a popular watering-hole, particularly for those travelling to games at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The three-storey premises also operated as a B&B.

Last night, gardaí closed the N8, which runs past the pub, and advised motorists to avoid the area. Video on Facebook showed the upper floors engulfed in flames.

It is understood the building has been unoccupied for some time.
