The Irish Farmers Association has been in touch with a farmer who lost several cattle due to suspected lead poisoning to offer him support, as the Department of Agriculture continue to investigate the incident.

The farmer, based in North Cork, is understood to have lost at least eight cattle to suspected lead poisoning in what one IFA representative described as “catastrophic” circumstances.

Milk from the farm is supplied to Dairygold, but following checks the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said it was completely satisfied there was no risk to consumer health arising out of the incident.
