The parents of a man who died while taking a shortcut through fields have thanked the volunteers who helped find his body.

Michael Murray’s parents, Pauline and Peter, said they have drawn comfort and strength from the fact that so many people turned out in Ballincollig, Co Cork, to join searches after their only child was reported missing.

Mr Murray, 33, who lived in Carriganarra and who was the head of IT at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, enjoyed a night out with friends in the Washington St area of the city last Thursday and took a taxi to Ballincollig in the early hours of Friday.
