Alliance launch website to help fight incinerator plan in Cork Harbour

A people’s alliance that has fought a long-running battle to stop a €160m incinerator being built in Cork Harbour has launched an online site to make it easier and cheaper for people to lodge their objections to the company’s latest bid for planning permission.

Chase (Cork Harbour for A Safe Environment) has launched the campaign against Indaver’s third attempt to build a 240,000 tonne hazardous and municipal incinerator at Ringaskiddy, Co Cork.

Chase said its supporters could avoid complicated and sometimes time-consuming questionnaires in relation to planning objections — which cost €50 for each person or group — by logging onto its website and becoming part of an organised group.

It is encouraging community associations and individuals to come onboard to the online idea and is organising a series of community meetings around the lower harbour area, the next of which will take place at Cobh Community Centre on Monday, February 22 at 7.30pm.

Linda Fitzpatrick, of Chase, claimed the group is taking the stance because An Bord Pleanála “was taking the community out to a degree and we’re putting it back in”.
