A Kilkenny man has been found not guilty of the murder of his ex-girlfriend by reason of insanity.  Shane Smyth of McGuinness House, Evans Lane stabbed Mairead Moran to death at the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny in May 2014.

Clare County Council has warned local residents of the risk of further coastal flooding this evening.  High Tide is forecast for 5.30pm on the Clare coast and the Shannon Estuary.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has called on Gerry Adams to provide any details he may have on the guns used in Friday’s hotel attack.  Speaking at Fine Gael headquarters this morning Mr Kenny said the AK47s used in the attack at the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra on Friday were “very similar if not the same” as those that were brought in by the Provisional IRA in the 1970s and 1980s.

More than a century of Jewish worship in Cork city centre has ended with the final prayer service  in its synagogue.

Elaine Murphy did all the running — but boyfriend David Mellamphy stole her thunder.  As 29-year-old Elaine crossed the finish line of the Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon after her half-marathon triumph in appalling stormy conditions, it was David who fell to his knees, produced a ring, and proposed marriage.

LATEST... Business group Ibec has weighed into the hot election debate on the universal social charge  — saying that “moves to abolish the USC are a step in the wrong direction.”

LATEST... A tax on sugary drinks and increased tax on tobacco are part of The party has also stated its intention to scrap the USC for those earning under €72,000 a year. If enacted, the plans would see a 15c tax on sugary drinks while the cost of cigarettes will increase by "about 45 cent a year".

A leopard has wandered into a school in southern India and injured three people as it tried to escape,  Onlookers including TV news crews watched the chase, which lasted several hours until forest workers shot the big cat with a tranquilliser dart, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

A new report claiming to debunk election tax myths has been published by business leaders.  Ibec, which represents home-grown and multinational businesses across every sector of the economy, has claimed Ireland is not a low tax, low spend economy and although tax on work is too high, too many are not paying anything.

Supermarkets and other retailers will find it difficult to source locally produced fresh milk  in the winter months, as low prices are driving away specialist liquid milk producers.
