Gardaí fail in appeal on sick pay plan

A challenge by gardaí to their inclusion in changes to the public service workers’ sick pay scheme has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.

The three-judge court unanimously upheld an October 2014 High Court decision rejecting a challenge by the Garda Representative Association (GRA) to the changes reducing their entitlements, introduced by the public expenditure and reform minister.

A cross-appeal by the minister over the High Court decision not to award costs against the GRA because of delays by the minister in disclosing documentation was also dismissed by the appeals court.
