Two ageing HSE-run nursing homes whose facilities have been strongly criticised by the health watchdog are in line for a €9m boost.

The separate investments in the north Cork facilities, which date from the 1920s and 1930s, will fund capital building works and upgrades to bring them in line with modern standards.

It is expected that St Joseph’s Community Hospital in Millstreet, which dates from 1932, will receive a €4m boost, with a further €5m being ploughed into 1927-established Kanturk Community Hospital.
