Just over €4m has been approved by the European Regional Development fund with matching funding from the council. Improvement works include the broadening of footpaths on all main streets and the provision of bus and cycle lanes to reduce motor traffic and noise.

Announcing the plan, the Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan said: “This investment will assist efforts that all those who love Limerick are making to revitalise the city centre and is very welcome. This will literally transform the very core of Limerick.”
