IRELAND 

Tánaiste Joan Burton has fallen out of a boat while viewing flood damage in Co Kilkenny.  The Tánaiste was on her way to inspect a flooded house in Thomastown when she ended up in the shallow water.

The €5m Oireachtas Banking Inquiry has signed off on its final report  clearing the way for a general election in the last week of February.

Gardaí have issued a revised traffic plan for the Cork county area  in response to continuing issues with flooding.

Minister of State at the Office of Public Works has said that it is a "reality" that flood relief schemes  take a number of years to deliver.

Tánaiste Joan Burton has claimed there is nothing wrong with two of her senior advisers being paid up to  €52,000 more  than strict pay caps allow because the salaries are still lower than under previous governments.
