Tánaiste Joan Burton has called on two TDs arrested and jailed for failing to pay €2,000 each in fines over protesting at Shannon Airport to pay the money owed from their Dáil wages.

Independent TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace have vowed to continue their protests after both were driven by gardaí from Dublin to Limerick Prison for the non-payments and then released after a short while.

Ms Daly said the ridiculous situation governing the non-payment of fines had now been exposed after there was criticism over a waste of garda and prison resources. She said their opposition to US authorities using Shannon as a stopover would continue.
