10 men due in court over assault on gardaí in Killarney

Up to 10 men are expected to appear in Killarney District Court in connection with an incident of public disorder that saw gardaí assaulted and forced to call for backup.

Gardaí were called to the Ballyspillane estate in Killarney, Co Kerry, amid complaints from residents of noise and that up to 15 men had gathered and were drinking in a public area on Tuesday night. Gardaí responded a number of times.

However, when the appearance of police failed to quell the activity, gardaí were again called out. This time, three gardaí were assaulted as they tried to seize alcohol. Back-up arrived and a number of men were arrested on the spot.
