10 men due in court over assault on gardaí in Killarney
Gardaí were called to the Ballyspillane estate in Killarney, Co Kerry, amid complaints from residents of noise and that up to 15 men had gathered and were drinking in a public area on Tuesday night. Gardaí responded a number of times.
However, when the appearance of police failed to quell the activity, gardaí were again called out. This time, three gardaí were assaulted as they tried to seize alcohol. Back-up arrived and a number of men were arrested on the spot.
Three people over the age of 18 have so far been charged in relation to the incident under the Public Order Act. However, several more arrests are expected and those charged are expected to appear at Killarney District Court later this month, a senior Garda official has confirmed.
