Silver lining for IFA as watchdog finds mart fees broke no rules

The IFA has received a sliver of good news as it has emerged that a State watchdog has allayed concerns that its fees breach consumer or competition rules.

The farmers’ organisation has been under siege in the last week over the excessive amounts paid out to former top executives.

The Irish Examiner has learnt that the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission examined the fees that marts and processors charge farmers on behalf of the IFA, which help fund the organisation.
