Government and Garda bosses face the prospect of losing up to 380,000 policing hours from January 1.

It follows the decision by a second staff association not to continue working the 30 extra hours each member currently provides, once an existing agreement expires at the end of December.

The decision by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) will translate to lost policing time of around 63,300 hours across its 2,110 members.
