A former British soldier has been arrested by detectives investigating the Bloody Sunday killings in Derry in 1972. Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Legacy Investigation Branch said they had arrested a 66-year-old man in Co Antrim.
The stepdaughters of a man who has been jailed for eight years for sexually abusing them for a decade say they will never forgive him and their mother. Despite John Joe Patterson being found guilty earlier this year of 39 counts of sexual assault, the mother of Emma and Vanessa Witherow still refuses to believe her daughters’ accounts.
A former Anglo Irish Bank official has been refused bail pending an appeal in the new year. Bernard Daly of Collins Avenue West, Whitehall in Dublin was jailed in July for conspiring to hide accounts linked to former chairman Sean FitzPatrick.
Ireland’s neutrality is being seriously breached by allowing US warplanes to fly through Shannon Airport, a veterans’ group has said today. The claim was made by Veterans for Peace Ireland, who laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance this morning while calling for an end to wars worldwide.

The European Commission has described some of the issues raised by UK prime minister David Cameron to reform the EU as “highly problematic”. Some of Mr Cameron’s proposals for talks to make sure that Britain stays in the EU may be feasible, Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said, adding that others ranged from “difficult to worse”.
A French magazine which published a tell-all story about the out-of-wedlock son of Prince Albert II of Monaco has won a free press case at the European Court of Human Rights. In May 2005, Albert tried unsuccessfully to block Paris-Match’s story about Nicole Coste, a French-Togolese flight attendant, who sought acknowledgement of paternity for their son. The story also ran in the German magazine Bunte.

Major League Soccer has selected Irish official Alan Kelly as the 2015 MLS Referee of the Year. The award was decided by votes from clubs, players and media with Kelly receiving more than double the votes of his nearest competitor.

Legendary jockey Pat Eddery has diedat the age of 63. Eddery was crowned champion 11 times, claimed four Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes and won over 4,600 races before his retirement in 2003.
Dingle chairman Seamus Ó Bambaire says the Kerry County Board must now take action to ensure no club suffers the same as they have due to the Munster Club Championship fixture controversy.

A total of 121,098 new cars were sold in Ireland in the nine months to September, a 30% increase compared to 2014, an industry report has found. The Society of the Irish Motor Industry/DoneDeal 3rd Quarter Motor Industry Review also stated that the Exchequer benefitted by collecting €1.12bn from both new and used car sales.
Andrew Nolan, of Gormanstown, Kilcullen, Co Kildare, was given a number of loan facilities in 2008 and 2009 by the bank to buy land and property in Kilcullen and Celbridge, including for the Hideout Pub in Kilcullen and an adjoining 1.3 acre town centre-zoned site.
