A seven-and-a-half year prison sentence has been handed down to a drink driver who killed a little boy and severely injured the child’s mother in a crash last year.

Ciarán Treacy, 4, was killed while returning from his grandparents’ house in Stradbally, Co Laois, with his brother Sean, 7, and mother Gillian when the collision occurred at 8.30pm on April 17.

Finbarr O’Rourke, aged 40, of Laurel Drive, Portlaoise, Co Laois, received the sentence for dangerous driving causing death at a sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Court.
