Brooklyn movie comes ‘home’ to Enniscorthy

The red carpet affair is already sold out with 300 guests expected to join the award-winning writer at the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy.
Representatives of the film’s production team and distributors Lionsgate UK will also be present.
Much of the Irish filming of Brooklyn, which premiered last week, took place in Enniscorthy — the setting for part of the much-lauded novel by Colm Toibín and also his home town — and over 100 local people were cast as extras.

Many of these new “movie stars” will get to see their moment on the big screen for the first time tonight.
Shooting, with Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan playing the lead, took place in March of 2014 in Enniscorthy.
Three streets became a live film set and were transformed back in time to the 1950s.

Enniscorthy District Manager Padraig O’Gorman of Wexford County Council, who along with a team from the council made a strong bid for the film to be captured in the town, says Brooklyn-fever is building.
“It is all systems go as the town gears up for what is certain to be an occasion of glitz and glamour on a scale never before experienced in Enniscorthy,” he said.
The hotel’s ballroom is being transformed into a state of the art cinema complex, complete with tiered seating, wrap-around sound system, down-lighting and a 5m x 2.5m screen.
The organisers also plan to decorate the hotel foyer with memorabilia from the film, supplied by Lionsgate UK.
As a result of the huge local interest, an 11pm second screening of Brooklyn will follow the 8pm showing and tickets for both shows are reportedly sold out.
