US tech firm to create 10 jobs in Waterford

A stable job force, access to resources, and the technical infrastructure of the region are just three reasons listed by a leading American software development company on why it has has chosen to invest in Waterford.

As part of its European expansion global company CGM, LLC yesterday announced that it is to create 10 jobs in Waterford with a view to further increasing its workforce in the future.

The announcement was made at the official opening of the Startup Gathering in Waterford yesterday by minister of state at the Department of the Environment Paudie Coffey, who welcomed the job boost.

“This announcement shows that Waterford people, by using their contacts, can also bring investment to Ireland with their own initiative,” he said.

“I want to welcome CGM to Waterford and hope that they have a long association with Waterford and continue to grow and expand their operations.”

CGM is already recruiting for new positions and according to Kevin Murphy, co-founder and partner of the company, one of the key things that compelled the company to choose Waterford was the secure and talented workforce available in the region.

CGM Ireland Ltd, a newly established European subsidiary of CGM, LLC, will be based in the state-of-the-art ArcLabs at the Waterford Institute of Technology West campus in Carriganore.

The Irish branch will be responsible for quality assurance, testing and support development activities for CGM’s online enrolment and auditing systems.

Despite originating in the US in 1997, CGM has bases across most of Europe. However, this will be its first expansion in Ireland, having been introduced through a ConnectIreland initiative which encourages diaspora to invest in the economy.

Claire Minnock, communications and marketing manager at ConnectIreland, said it was “fantastic” to see a company like CGM choosing to locate in Ireland, particularly in Waterford.

“It’s great to see the welcome CGM has gotten in Waterford already,” she said. “The company are very excited about getting started here.”

CEO of ConnectIreland Joanne Murphy said an international company expanding into Waterford is an excellent example of the Succeed in Ireland initiative in action.

“CGM has a strong focus on technology, innovation and product development and it is great to see they recognise the value of locating in Waterford where there is a wide talent pool and available network of skilled workers,” said Ms Murphy.
