Gardaí probe killing of 7ft 6in man
Gardai upgraded their investigation to murder on Saturday night after 7ft 6in Belarusian national Dimitri Hrynkevich died.
Mr Hrynkevich was found by emergency services in the front lawn of a house he was staying at in Killeen Woods, Tralee, at 10.30pm on Wednesday.
A party had been taking place in the house at the time. Mr Hrynkevich, with addresses previously in Killarney, was taken by ambulance to Kerry General Hospital, located a short distance away and placed on life support. He died on Friday night. His family was at his bedside at the time.
A murder investigation was launched after the autopsy by State pathologist Marie Cassidy at Kerry General Hospital on Saturday established Mr Hrynkevich’s death was due to a severe beating.
Mr Hrynkevich moved to Killarney with members of his family while in his teens. He attended secondary school at St Brendan’s College Killarney for a period.
He was also known to gardaí and had a number of convictions.
Two men arrested on Wednesday shortly after emergency services arrived at Killeen Woods were released without charge.
The men, both eastern European, one in his 20s, the other in his 30s, were questioned in relation to the investigation into the serious assault. Files are being prepared for the DPP.
An incident room has been set up in Tralee and a number of detectives have been assigned to the case.
Gardaí in Tralee say a party had been taking place in the house at Killeen Woods on the night.
They are appealing for all those at the party and anyone in the Killeen Woods area between 10pm and 11pm to make contact with them.
They believe the assault took place inside the house shortly before 10.30 pm.
“Investigations are ongoing and investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses,” gardaí said in a statement.
