Man fined €175 for drunken behaviour in road

Garda Brian Motyer responded to a call to Upper Kilmoney Rd, Carrigaline, Co Cork, on March 12 to deal with a drunken disturbance.

Brendan Cashman, of 23, Endsleigh, Ballea Rd, was in such a state of intoxication that he had to be minded by gardaí, Inspector Eileen Foster said yesterday at Cork District Court.

Defence solicitor Eddie Burke replied: “It was the week of Cheltenham. He and some friends began drinking quite early that day.”

Mr Burke said that while defendants accused of drunkenness often found themselves accused of being threatening also there was no such additional count in Cashman’s case.

Judge Leo Malone fined Cashman €175 for being drunk and a source of danger to himself or others.

Cashman had a previous conviction for assault causing harm.
