Taoiseach Enda Kenny said:  “The nation and the world have lost one of the giants of theatre" upon hearing the news that Irish playwright Brian Friel has died at the age of 86.

An Post has advised customersnot to post any letters or parcels until further notice.  The company has blamed industrial action by members of the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) in mails processing centres of supplier company IO Systems for the announcement.

Irish people are among the most tolerant people in Europe,  but despite this there has been an increase in the number of people saying they have been discriminated against in the past year.

It was literally a case of a criminal laundering money.When gardaí raided a farm at Portcrush, Montpellier, Co Limerick  they found convicted drug dealer John Duffy drying €1.5m in a spin-dryer and vacuum packing it in plastic.

The head of Paypal Ireland has said the rental crisis is so bad here that the company is now asking staff  to offer rooms to new employees.

A gunman who opened fire inside a classroom at a rural Oregon college has killed at least nine people before dying in a shoot-out with police.  One survivor said he demanded his victims state their religion before he started shooting.

A gunman who killed nine people at a college in Oregon in the US may have been an IRA supporter.  Twenty-six-year-old Chris Harper Mercer was shot dead by police after he opened fire at a community college yesterday, killing nine people.
