Investigations are underway after a well-known Dublin criminal was shot dead on Spain’s Costa del Sol yesterday morning. Gary Hutch - the nephew of former Dublin criminal Gerry "the Monk" Hutch - died after a masked gunman shot him in an apartment complex in Miraflores near Marbella on the Costa del Sol.

Two men have been arrested this morning in connection with the murder of Martin Kivlehan in Sligo last month. They are being questioned at Sligo garda station, where they can be held for up to 72 hours.

Dublin Airport has announced that the departures road at Terminal 1 will be closed for essential maintenance, from 4am next Monday morning. The upgrade work is due to be finished by mid-December.

Pope Francis issued a ringing call to action on behalf of immigrants, urging politicians at the US Congress to embrace “the stranger in our midst” as he became the first pontiff in history to address a joint meeting of the legislators. Referencing the migration crisis in Europe as well as the US’s own struggle with immigration from Latin America, Francis summoned politicians “to respond in a way which is always humane, just and fraternal”.

Saudi Arabia’s king has ordered an investigation into safety at the annual Hajj pilgrimage after a stampede left more than 700 people dead. 800 others were hurt in the crush on the outskirts of the Muslim holy city Mecca.
